Young individuals are faced with contemporary pressures of various kinds daily. Because of demands placed on us by parents and figures of authority, we are facing a struggle to attain the standard required of us by agents of power.
The dynamic space, which is the club, is the saviour many young people now turn to – to find temporary relief and liberation from the burdens troubling them.
Ratner (2000) highlights that ‘agency initiates individual acts of personal significance’.
The freedom of self-expression acts as a relief to youths, particularly young people. They can look forward to their moment of sweet escape on Friday nights, when they would finally get the chance let out some of the stress generated through the week.
My work aims to capture the space and connect viewers to moment these young people lived in. My inclusion of sound is also for this purpose. I intend for you partake of this experience with them, and hopefully share in their emotions too.
